Day 1 - Begin Again

Today is the first day of my latest effort to lose the weight and stick to the Nutrisystem plan. I originally prepared this blog to document the beginning a new job, but 2 months after being laid off there is no job in sight. Therefore, I am choosing to use this for something positive.

I got up around 8:30 today. Once the cats were fed I settled in to have breakfast and enjoy some coffee. Breakfast was 150 calorie pancakes with sugar free syrup and an 80 calorie yogurt, which I enjoyed with my second cup of coffee. I got dressed shortly after 10 and since I found a bag of mozzarella cheese in the freezer, there is no need to go to the grocery store today ! I thought I had a bag frozen but hadn't taken the time to go look for it. Once that is thawed I can put together some pizzas and get those frozen.

Before I had my second cup of coffee and yogurt I got dressed and put my sneakers on ! There will NO excuses to avoid the treadmill today. I didn't weigh myself this morning so I'll have to do that this evening or tomorrow.

I finally feel like I'm in the right frame of mind to buckle down with diet and exercise. I spent the last 2 months feeling sorry for myself and being uncertain about the future. The bottom line is there is no immediate financial crisis, so I need to focus on what I can control. I can control what I eat. I can control how much exercise I get. I can't control getting hired but I can put in the work needed to present a good resume.

About 10:30 am today my neighbor decided to pressure wash his roof line and the back of the house. He's also scraping the paint so it looks like they're going to paint the house. Not sure why, as it's white and the paint seems to be in good shape. They also suddenly cut down all the brush that had grown up around the back of the house. I stopped mowing & weeding close to their house and I didn't trim the brush this year. I did last year and you'd think they'd have taken the hint. It's all growing up against the foundation of the house and that isn't good. Some of the poison sumac had trunks as thick as a tree ! They also trimmed all weeds that had grown up against the house. I'm going to guess the village got after them about that, since they also sent me a notice earlier this spring about my grass being too tall on that side of the house. I guess our codes guy has nothing better to do than harass people over stupid stuff. Anyhow, I'm wondering if he is fixing up the place to try and sell it.

In positive news, I finally got my fat a$$ on the treadmill ! It was nearly 3 pm but I did it ! The workout was 10m50s with a starting speed of 1.5 mph that progressed to 2.2 mph about 90 seconds in. I'm doing the Road to Recovery series with iFit trainer Tommy Rivs. He points out this is as fast as he can go, and I'm grateful for this series (and the 3 that follow) as I can't go much faster ! Sad to think I used to be able to make it up to 3.9 mph ! It will take time but I know I can get back there. I have no excuse for being in this state. Tommy was beginning his journey back from his devastating cancer battle, so it's a miracle he was even upright. He is jogging and doing marathons these days, thanks to his hard work and dedication. Before the workout I had my Nutrisystem protein shake. It's 155 calories with the 1 tbsp of peanut butter powder that I add. After my workout, instead of going straight to the couch I cut up a head of lettuce and made myself a salad. It was 4 pm by the time I was done with that.

Conquering the treadmill gives me a much needed confidence boost. Honestly, I wasn't sure I could do it. I am going slower on the warmup and cool down, but over time I will be able to go back to my standard 2 mph for that. The workouts do get a little longer as time progresses but they're all under 15 minutes.

I've decided to just go ahead and finish the pizza that I have. I know I won't be able to stick to only having it once a week, so I'm just going to finish what I have and then not buy any more. I guarantee I would make those pizzas, freeze them and then end up eating them day after day until they're gone. So it's best for me to just finish what I have and then move on.
