Day 6 - Time To Get Back On Track

Here is the link to my original Day 6 on Nutrisystem. It was Wednesday January 9, 2019. I was absorbing the shock of our office closing, along with another tragedy, which was Tigger passing away. Because of my plumbing issues I happened to be home that day and was able to hold her until the end. My very first Nutrisystem journey did not not get off to a good start !

The new Day 6 dawned bright and sunny, if cool. It was near 60 when I got up, with a predicted high of 77. I do love the cool nights ! I was awake shortly after 7 am because I needed to pee, but I knew if I got up I'd never get back to sleep. So I turned over and went back to sleep until Minnie arrived shortly after 8 am. As soon as I got up she settled on my bed to nap. Did she wake me up so she could have the bed to herself or did she hear the stray cats grumbling outside ?

Breakfast was a 180 calorie cinnamon roll. Food for the rest of the day was a 1770 calorie pig feast from DQ. Well, that didn't last. I had a bag of brussel sprouts for dinner (good job!) but then I was hungry for something sweet shortly after 9 pm, so I had a 140 calorie lemon zest cake with whipped cream. That's 2090 calories plus whipped cream. Not good when you're on a 1200 calorie diet.

At 9:13 am the goal for today is to get on the treadmill twice. I also have some laundry to do and the litter boxes are long overdue for cleaning. By 9:30 things changed. I got dressed and decided to go get my inspection done. They had a 90 minute wait so I didn't bother with the oil change today. I will go after the 1st of the month since most of the August inspections should be out of the way. I was starving by the time I left Valvoline (they didn't take my car in until 12:02 pm!) so I gave in and went to Dairy Queen. I had a double cheeseburger, large fries, Coke Zero and a small strawberry cheesecake blizzard. According to their website, the burger is 570 calories, the fries are 450 and the blizzard is 750 calories. Yikes, that is 1770 calories. Needless to say, I am eating nothing else today except veggies. I see salad, green beans, carrots and brussel sprouts in my future ! I got home about 1:45 so that one little task took over 4 hours ! The inspection itself only took about 30 minutes. My car went in a bit after 12 pm, following some chit chat with the technician about us both being left handed and I was cashed out at 12:40, after some chit chat about Disney since I was wearing a Disney shirt. He's taking his grandkids in January !

In other news, the AT&T strike continues. I hope the douchebag that fired me and my colleagues is getting an earful from his superiors ! Even though he was able to cut the management numbers, he can't just discard the Union workers. I'm sure the goal is to offshore that work but we have State and Federal customers that cannot be offshored, so they have no choice but to have that work done in the US. They also can't just move it to management employees .. so they are stuck. What's ironic is that many of the managers they got rid of would have been contingency workers used during a strike. If I were still employed I'd be working 12 hours a day 7 days a week and I'd be getting paid overtime. I'd have made a boatload of money but wow, that's a tough assignment ! Managers are already complaining online about it .. and I love it .. lol ! Many of the managers are not eligible for overtime, so they really get screwed. I'm sure most of them are not working very hard and it's going to be quite the mess to clean up once the strike is over.

I was glad I have Cookie Jam on my phone since I had to wait so long for the car inspection. It really helped pass the time. I also had a guy parked next to me waiting and he was playing some rock and roll tunes. The car on the other side of me was a couple of trashy women. I closed my driver side window after one of them loudly sneezed. Like, what the hell ? Apparently their inspection had been expired for quite some time, so the guy had to remove the sticker whether the car passed or not. I don't know if they passed as I didn't think to look at the windshield when I got out of my car. I think they were worried about it passing. I also had to close the passenger side window for a bit as the guy next to me was smoking. It started to get hot in the car so I ended up cracking both windows to get some air. When the trashy girls car went in I was able to open the driver side window completely and get a much needed breeze ! By the time it was my turn I was glad to hang out in the air conditioned waiting area. I also had to pee, so it was perfect timing. It was good to get home !

My Day 6 this time around is going better, though I can't say my DQ meal was a good choice. On Day 6 the first time around I was reeling from the news of our office closing, Tigger passed away AND I was dealing with plumbing issues. I'm happy to have all of that behind me. I still seem to have issues with my boiler every winter. I'm going to try and have the heating guy come out in October or early November just to check things out instead of waiting for disaster to strike. I seem to have trouble once the heat is on full time and maybe that's just because water is not circulating throughout the house all summer. This year I'm also going to try and keep the heat at 68 and use a space heater in the living room and if needed, in my bedroom. I also have an electric blanket I can use.

By the time I got home today the temp had risen to 76 degrees. I opened all the windows and doors to let the air circulate through the house. There is no rain in the forecast so I'm going to mow the lawn tomorrow unless Doug happens to come by and do it before I do !

I'm a little concerned about Minnie as she didn't eat breakfast and has been upstairs sleeping on my bed since 8 am. Just before 4 I took a fresh bowl of canned food upstairs and she did eat, but didn't seem to want to come downstairs. She might have been downstairs while I was out, but if she was she didn't eat any canned food. I'm not going anywhere this weekend so I'll keep an eye on her to ensure she is eating. As for me, I've been in the bathroom 3 times today. I feel fine and it may just be my body trying to get used to veggies every day again. Hitting it with a salad AND a big bag of green beans is likely a little bit of a shock .. lol !

Tomorrow is Day 7, but I'm not going to weigh myself "officially" until the morning of Day 8. That will reflect a full 7 days of this effort. I think I'm going to be disappointed as I haven't been exercising, I've had ice cream a couple times and I pigged out today. I have one last serving of ice cream and I'm going to trash that. I also need to scale back the quantity of whipped cream I am using every day. At this point every calorie counts.

Although I didn't use the treadmill today, I did get some activity. I cleaned out the litter boxes and ultimately decided to try having only one. Minnie uses the 2 boxes that are there, but I think she will be fine with one as long as I clean it every day. My plan right now is to scoop out the box in the morning after I feed the cats. I just need to make that part of my routine and it only takes a minute or two ! It's hard to believe it's been nearly 6 months since Abby passed away. I miss all my pets but can't imagine having that chaos in my life now.

These first 6 days of my latest effort are not perfect, but I feel hopeful. I need to keep tempting foods out of the house (ice cream, candy, chip & dip, hotdogs, pizza, pop tarts) and work harder to gain consistency with exercise. I need to continue to work on exercising restraint when eating out. I did good at bingo Wednesday night, but giving in to DQ today wasn't the smartest thing I've ever done. However, I'm proud I went with a small blizzard instead of a large. That is an achievement ! It'll be some time before I go there again, but when I do I already know what I need to do. I will get a single cheeseburger (today's was a double) and I will not go with the "large" meal. Large just means a couple more fries (maybe!) and a larger drink - neither of which I need. I will also go with the mini blizzard, instead of the small. I am trying to give myself grace without allowing myself to return to the habits that led to regaining the weight.

My goal for tomorrow is simple: 2 workouts on the treadmill. That's it. Simple, easy, little effort. If I end up mowing the lawn I will be ok with just the 11 am workout.
