Day 18: Time to Buckle Down !

Here is the link to my original Day 18 on Nutrisystem. It was Monday January 21, 2019. My headline that day was "Life Changing", as it was the deadline for the billing associates to decide if they were following their work to Florida and being laid off. They were lucky - they got $10k if they opted to move or 2 years of severance pay if they decided to leave the company, thanks to their union contract. If they haven't already, I'm sure the company wants to get these provisions removed from the contract or the benefits significantly reduced. At this point, the managers didn't know their fate. It was a snowy and brutally cold below zero day. I was home .. I'm guessing it was because we had MLK day off. Although I am not looking forward to winter, I'm glad I don't have to be out trying to get to work every day. Winter driving is the main reason I want a remote job.

Breakfast was a 270 calorie breakfast sandwich. Lunch was a 220 calorie pepperoni pizza melt.

I slept in until just before 10 am today ! This is not the sleep schedule I want to be on, especially if I have any hope of getting a new job ! I think I need to start setting the alarm and force myself onto a better schedule.

It's rock and roll bingo day so I took a shower shortly after noon then sat down to watch more YouTube and play Cookie Jam. I don't have to leave until 4:45 but I may leave a little early today so I can stop at the ATM. I have very little cash on hand and I like to keep $500 available. I checked in on my bank account yesterday and when I got my severance pay I had transferred $21k to my savings, so this is what I'll spending in the coming months. It'll be interesting to see how long it lasts. I'll spend a fair amount in September as I have to pay school taxes but October, November and December will be less, though heating bills will creep into the equation. They're saying it's going to be a mild winter and that would be great. I am still planning on keeping my thermostat lower to save as much as I can. The siding definitely helped with the heating costs but I still had $300 bills last winter.

I didn't use the treadmill yesterday but I got 5747 steps in by walking around the house and grocery stores, so I'm good with that ! No treadmill today since I was going out.

On the AT&T front, the strike continues. I doubt anyone expected it to go this long. I'll never know what was won/lost when it's over, but I suspect the employees are going to lose some measure of the job security they've enjoyed for many years. Like they did with Syracuse, I wouldn't be surprised if they're training people in another center (at lower wages) to do the work. Then they can move the work and do layoffs once the contract is settled, provided some of the job security provisions have been removed.

On the diet and exercise front, I'm stills struggling. I had to have that darn corn bread and I ate 2/3 of it last night and finished it off today. Here's the worst part: it wasn't that good ! I was looking for a corn bread that is not gritty or super sweet, and Wegman's fits neither of those. It was gritty because they use a coarse corn meal and it was sweet because "traditional" corn bread is supposed to be sweet. I need to make my own if I want it again and that means finding a mix or recipe for something that uses fine corn meal and a lot less sugar. My point here is I can't have anything in the house because I can't control myself. The whole week (starting last Thursday) is a bust because of the donuts, butter toffee nuts, the cornbread, the pizza I'll have tonight and whatever I eat at the ballpark on Friday. That's it .. a whole week of "dieting" blown to bits. In 18 days of "dieting" I've lost nothing. Do I start over yet again ? Here is the problem: life is going to happen. I can't expect to be 100% compliant every single day, but I can definitely do much, much better. As I previously stated, I am going to wait until day 31 to weight myself again. I'd like to be at 275 or less.
