Day 28 & 29: The Weekend

Here is the link to my original Day 28 and Day 29. It was Thursday January 31 and Friday February 1, 2019. My headlines for those days were: Perseverance Is Hard Work and Be Good To Yourself. I was so excited to be nearly 30 days into the program without "cheating". It was still the dead of winter and I had lost 21 pounds ! It seems like I wasn't feeling well at the time, but I didn't document any specifics as to what was wrong.

The current day 28 and 29 were different. Yesterday I went to camp to spend the day with Rich & Barb. We took a road trip to Fairport NY and had a great time ! I found a cruise line on Google and they offered a 3 hour narrated cruise along the Erie Canal. It was a beautiful day and we were glad tickets were available ! It was $38 a person but I think that was reasonable for 3 hours ! We had a quick lunch at an Irish pub called Mulconry's. Food was a little pricy but absolutely delicious. We shared an Irish Poutine (gigantic plate of fries covered in gravy, corned beef and cheese sauce) and an order of beer battered chicken tenders with bbq, honey mustard and ranch dressing. We were short on time to get to the boat so we ate the poutine and took the tenders to go. We ended up eating them while waiting to board as you couldn't take any food on board. They were so good ! Rich paid for the boat and I paid for lunch. They had a bar on the boat so I had 2 strawberry margaritas. It was 5:30 when the boat docked and nearly 6:30 by the time we got back to camp, so I headed right home to make my macaroni salad. That was done by 11 and I headed to bed shortly after. The only other things I ate yesterday were a breakfast sandwich and yogurt before I went out, then 4 pieces of raisin toast and a chocolate cupcake before bed. I also bought a packet of peanuts on the boat and ate about 2/3 of that. Lastly, I had a bit of the macaroni salad. I wanted to make sure it was good and it was !

I woke up just after 8 today and was up by 9. After I fed the cats I had waffles for breakfast. They're the Wegman's whole grain and I don't recall the calories, but they meet the Nutrisystem guidelines when you only have 2 !

About 11:15 I headed out to Kim and Joe's for my next adventure ! I rolled back in at 7:15, so that was an 8 hour day ! It was fun. I cut up the red hots (small hot peppers) for the freezer, then started slicing eggplant. I did 4 pans and that was enough. Roasted red peppers and squash were also on the menu, but Lauren, Alyssa and Michelle took care of that task. I brought home 3 bags of sliced uncooked eggplant, along with 2 bags of sliced fried eggplant. I also brought home 3 whole eggplant, 2 bags of roasted red peppers and a small bag of squash. I'm going the roast the whole eggplants for a veggie change of pace. I'm so tired of green beans, carrots and brussel sprouts. I will use the roasted red peppers in my salads. Kim and Joe said it was helpful to have everyone there because they usually can't process all that in one day. We had burgers and my macaroni salad for dinner and we had chip/dip and veggies/dip beforehand. Dessert was cookies Lauren made and an apple pie that Kim made. We also had margaritas ! So what did I eat today ? Waffles for breakfast, a few chips & dip, a few veggies & dip, one hamburger and 2 servings of macaroni salad. For dessert I had 2 cookies (Lauren made 2 different kinds) and a piece of apple pie. I passed on the ice cream to go with it. I also had 2 margaritas but they were small glasses.

I happened to hear Michelle and Lauren talking and it seems Michelle is on Ozempic and has lost about 40 pounds. While happy for her, I am now more angry with myself. Her weight loss back in 2018 (which didn't stick) was part of the reason I started thinking about losing the weight. Now here I am again .. worried about being "the fattest one in the family". Yes, the competitor in me came out back in 2018 and I wasn't going to be the fattest one. Now here I am again .. in the exact same position. Well, I will take whatever help I can get to motivate me. Needless to say, the remains of raisin bread went in the trash when I got home and when the whipped cream is gone I am not buying any more. I do have 2 bags of pretzels but they can sit there for a bit since they're not open. No more excuses. I do have an excessive amount of macaroni salad left, so I will eat that over the next couple of days. I'll have to sacrifice other calories to compensate AND ramp up my exercise. There is no way I will ever use medication to lose weight and although I said nothing to Michelle, I've seen many people say that as soon as you stop taking it you gain all the weight back because your appetite comes roaring back. It doesn't help you change your eating habits and the side effects are just not worth the risk to me. I sincerely hope she has a good experience and is able to maintain her loss.

So tomorrow it begins. Day 30 will be ground zero .. again. I plan to start with a workout right after breakfast. Since I more than enough today, I'll be taking myself off to get without eating anything else. I know I can do this and maybe this is just the kick in the ass I needed ! I was never a big fan of eggplant but after the fabulous eggplant parm Joe & Lauren made, I decided that I do like it ! I plan to chop up a whole one tomorrow and roast it with some carrots, olive oil and seasonings. On it's own it doesn't have a lot of flavor so I think the sweetness of the carrots will be a good mix.

One problem I've been having lately is my body hurts. My hips especially. I suspect the huge increase in my weight is to blame. Once I get moving I'm fine, but in the morning and anytime I sit for too long I am so stiff and sore. Aspirin helps but I can't live on that. I'm going to start some very basic Total Gym workouts to help with my strength. Squats will help my hips and the arm exercises will help my other joints and muscles. I'm also wondering if this yoga pillow I sit on is part of the issue. I really wish I had a nice recliner or a better quality couch. If I get a job soon I may treat myself to a recliner. We'll see if weight loss and increasing my level of activity helps.

It's only 8:22 so I'm not going to bed anytime soon, but I've written all I wanted to today. I'm going to spend a couple hours watching YouTube and playing Cookie Jam. Tomorrow I plan to start getting up at 7 am (alarm is set), so I'll start the day with a shower.
