Day 39: Down But Not Out
Wednesday September 25, 2024
Here is the link to my original Day 39. It was Monday February 11, 2019. My headline that day was "Nothing Is Impossible", which is perfect for today. There was nothing remarkable about the day, other than the fact that I forgot my breakfast entree. I'm still incredibly disappointed by the outcome of yesterday's interview, but I found a couple jobs on LinkedIn that I'm going to apply for. I will keep trying ! I've got a little bit of momentum going and I can't let the job search become an excuse or allow it to get in my way. Losing the weight will increase my confidence and perhaps make people more interested in hiring me. I will make a decision about my financial status in January. If I haven't found a job I will likely apply for unemployment and start collecting my pension. I may also start collecting social security. I'll chat with my financial advisor when the time comes.
I got up just after 8 am and there were only 2 strays waiting for me this morning - the 2 nursing mama's ! Later the younger orange cat showed up and by afternoon the older orange cat had arrived. They're my usual customers each morning. The orange & white mama used to come every day but I think the other females chased her away. Same goes for the orange & white male. He only seems to show up if a female is in heat. There's another male that is contributing to the kitten population and he only shows up to do his part !
Breakfast was 160 calorie waffles with sugar free syrup. Late morning I had an 80 calorie yogurt. I didn't have a morning snack. Lunch was a 220 calorie pepperoni pizza melt. After that I was out for the day ! Dinner was a flatbread pepperoni pizza and a couple of 95 calorie Michelob Ultra's.
Below is what I achieved today. I am focusing on what I did today and not looking back to what I did or didn't do yesterday.

I didn't exercise today but I had the best intentions. I made my shake, put on my shoes and then sat down on the couch. I was going to watch the end of the video in progress and then get on the treadmill. Well, Minnie had other plans. She came meowing along and wanted to sit on my lap. I never have the heart to make her move. Many days I've sat with my bladder ready to pop while she is snoozing away on my lap. So I ran out of time and when she did finally leave me I went and took my shower, put on makeup, fluffed up my hair and got my clothes ready. Then I sat down to finalize yesterday's blog and start this one. I also checked in on my bank account to verify the transfer to cover my credit card and National Grid payments had completed.
I spent a few hours this morning going my usual: YouTube and Cookie Jam. They keep me sane but I really need to start spending some time cleaning the house. That will be the goal over the next few days. I'm glad tonight is rock & roll bingo as it's a welcome distraction from being unemployed. I paid last week so I eat for free tonight ! The day started off chilly and gray with some steady rain, but that seems to have moved out. I can't complain .. Florida is bracing for Hurricane/Tropical Storm Helene and it looks like there will be devastating flooding.
I'm still catching myself thinking about food decisions that make no sense. I didn't drink my shake because I didn't exercise, yet at 4 pm I was hungry and looking for something to eat. I was going to have a cheese stick and crackers even though I knew it wouldn't fill me up or keep me satisfied for long. Fortunately, I stopped myself and decided to drink the shake, which is high in protein ! Even though it's liquid, protein is always going to make more sense. I was also thinking about the hamburger I have in the freezer. I'd like to cook it up and make chili or tacos. Chili is more calories because of the beans, and tacos can be calorie bombs because of the cheese and sour cream. I think either would be fine in small quantities, so I'm going to cook all the meat and then bag it for the freezer. I bought it last November, so I really need to use it up or toss it. I put it in the fridge before I went out, so that it can start thawing. I could make a small pot of chili and then freeze individual portions. For tacos I would just add a little seasoning to the meat and heat it in the microwave. I'd like to be able to get off Nutrisystem at some point and that means developing healthier meal choices.
