Day 105: Sleepy Sunday
I think today was the coldest morning we've seen so far this winter. It was in the mid 20's and there was no sign of snow. I woke up just before 8 and was up by 8:30. There was only one stray cat waiting to eat and she was loud about it ! Two other cats showed up after 10 am for their share of food.
I spent the day watching YouTube and playing Cookie Jam. I also ran the dishwasher and put those dishes away. I didn't wash the stuff that needs to be handwashed yet and I didn't get any laundry done, but it's not like I have anything else to do ! I will get those tasks done over the next couple of days.
I love my mornings with Minnie. Once the cats are fed (including Minnie), I settle in with my coffee and breakfast. As soon as I do, Minnie demands to sit in my lap. She settles down for a morning snooze while I enjoy my coffee. She typically snoozes for about a half hour and then wanders off to maybe use the little box or prowl around the house. I usually take the opportunity to get another cup of coffee and pee. Minnie typically comes back once I settle in again. I treasure these times because I know she won't be here forever. She is 15 now but very healthy, so I hope we have many more years together. I'm spending some time sitting on the other end of the couch so that my legs aren't extended all day, and she sometimes comes to sit on my lap there too. That doesn't last long and she'll go lay on the pillow on the other end of the couch. It's probably more comfortable !
My heat worked well on this cold morning ! It was 63 upstairs when I got up and the dining room was at 68. I don't remember if I checked the laundry room, so I'm not sure what the temp was there. Regardless, the house was comfortable. We'll see what happens later this week when it drops into the teens. Overall I think the lower thermostat settings are better for the system and the hope is it will save me some money. 63 upstairs was perfectly comfortable, maybe because I'm used to it. In past winters I always set the thermostats on 70 and it was a struggle for it to maintain that temp on very cold days. Upstairs and the laundry room almost never reached that temp unless it was a warm day. So we'll see how this goes as winter progresses !
It's 5:25 and I have yet to see any of the 4-6 feet of snow that hit the forecast early this past week. I had so much anxiety about it ! I saw a very brief bit of fine flurries this morning. It might have lasted 2 minutes ! The snow is supposed to move south this evening so I may wake up to some of the white stuff ! The forecast now just says "chance of a few snow showers". I'm glad to have missed the bulk of it (so far), as it saves me having to pay for plowing ! I feel bad for the people who have actually been getting blasted by the snow since Friday. Some places really are getting that 4-6 feet or more.
