Day 110: Getting Things Done

 




Today was a typical winter day with periods of sun and a little bit of snow. It got windy and chillier in the afternoon. I was awake around 7:30 and up by 8 to feed the cats. It was 63 upstairs and a comfortable 68 downstairs. I think it was about 63 in the laundry room as well. The laundry room and the upstairs are the 2 parts of the house that struggle to stay warm. I'm glad warmer temps are coming since it will save a little bit on the utility bill. We're still under a winter storm warning until 1 pm tomorrow, but right now (at 7:11 pm) the snow is north of me.


I took a shower and washed my hair yesterday so today I managed to get myself dressed ! I spent some more time going through stuff in my office and was able to organize the closet a bit more and discard a few things. I still have a lot to do but I've made significant progress in the past 24 hours. I'm finding that I really don't have that much "stuff" that needs to be thrown away. I did throw away all the "medals" that I got from iFit. I was never going to display them and they serve no purpose. I did keep the iFit flag, as I'd like to hang that up. I found a couple of older bracelets that needed cleaning so I soaked those and then brushed them gently. Once dry they sparkled like new ! I think more than anything else I just needed to organize things. Right now I have anything that is cosmetic in a single bin. I have a brow kit that I've never used, I have an eyeliner kit I've never used and I have several tubes of brow gel that I haven't used. I also have plenty of nail polish, along with the NailBoo kit to do gel nails. I really want to give that a try and see if it will help me grow my nails longer. With all the plastic drawer sets I have, I was able to put all computer related stuff in one drawer (ethernet cables, power supplies, a wired mouse) and tv accessories in another. I still have some empty drawers that I can put things in. At least now I can walk into my office and not trip on anything or have to step over anything. My desk still has a bunch of junk on it, so that will be tomorrow's project !


I spent much of the day watching YouTube and playing Cookie Jam. I feel much better now and I really want to give the treadmill a try in the next couple days. I started cleaning out the closet with the "you have to start somewhere" mindset, so it's just a matter of applying that mindset to exercise. I also need to get my diet back on track. I've been pretty much eating whatever I want, when I want and that is not good. So I need to reel myself in. One concern I have now is all the recalls of fresh produce. I'd like to start eating salad again but I'm also afraid of getting e-coli. I think I'm going to start with just lettuce to have a salad and then start eating frozen veggies with my dinner again. Carrots seem to keep being mentioned in e-coli recalls, so I won't be buying them again anytime soon.


Once I have all my organizing and cleaning done I plan to spend some time playing around with the brow & eye liner kits. You can't get better with makeup unless you practice ! I also want to get better with eye shadow, so I'll work on that too. I am starting to climb out of the dark depths and I want that trajectory to continue.


After the holidays I do plan to start looking for a job again, especially since I plan to file for unemployment. If I find something, great. If I don't, no big deal. I'll look at taking social security and my pension while using my IRA to make up any shortfall. I'm going to predict that I won't find a job, and I'm ok with that. I really don't want to start over.


For now, I'm enjoying my days and looking forward to getting back into my diet and exercise routine. Next weekend is Christmas cookie baking so I need to make spritz cookies on Friday. I'll have to make a Walmart run sometime in the next few days, since I don't keep flour, sugar and butter in the house. I have some butter left from last year but I'm not sure I want to use year old butter. 


I've been trying to go to bed by 11 pm most nights, mostly because I'm tired by then ! I usually watch tv for a while after I get in bed. I had thought about trying to get up at 7 or 8 using the alarm, but decided there was no point. If I have to get up early for some reason I will set an alarm, otherwise I'll get up when I feel like it. On that note, it's not even 9 pm and I'm ready for bed. I'm going to wrap things up and go watch tv in bed. There is some light wind blown snow falling right now (8:43 pm) and we may get a couple inches overnight. No big deal ! Warmer temps are coming Sunday, followed by rain. The snow we have will likely melt or just turn into a slushy mess. I'll be sure to get the driveway 100% cleared again !

Below is what I achieved today. I am focusing on what I do each day, and not looking back to what I did or didn't do any other day. I hope that one day soon I won't need a checklist to ensure I do all of these everyday tasks !
