Day 133: Stupid Monday

 




I woke up for the first time just before 7 am but went back to sleep for another hour. I was up by 8 and went through my usual morning routine of feeding cats and then enjoying my coffee & breakfast while Minnie snoozed in my lap. I also watched YouTube and completed over 50 levels of Cookie Jam. When I got up to make my second cup of coffee I put a few things away in my office and cleared a bit off the dining room table. Later I sat down in my office to see what I could do with the shelves on the L part of my desk. I pulled out the job aid books from AT&T  and like an idiot tossed them on the floor between me and the door. When I went to leave my office I tripped over them and fell. I don't think I will ever learn ! I pinched a couple fingers on my left hand between the Total Gym and the squat support. I also banged my knees (left worse than the right) and my left foot. Since I'm so fat and because I can't kneel, I couldn't get up from where I had fallen ! I dragged myself out to the dining room, threw a pillow on the floor to support my right knee and used the chair outside my office to help me get up. It was actually easier than I expected ! It helps that the chairs are low and that I had a pillow I could reach. My left knee is sore and the tip of the pinky on my left hand is sore (it's a little bruised under the nail) but I am otherwise just fine. All things considered, it could have been much worse ! I can walk just fine and all my parts are moving normally ! My next project is removing the chair mat in my office because I keep tripping on it. It didn't cause my fall today but later I did catch my slipper on it. I mentioned before that I don't sit in there for extended periods of time anymore, so the chair will be fine on the carpet. I will toss the paper and binders in the trash over the next few weeks. At some point I will also toss the laptops I had. I never shipped them back (F them) and they never inquired about them. If they ever ask I'll say I sent them and that any receipts I might have had are long gone, since it's been over 7 months since they booted me.


Now, I will go back to yesterday. Barb called me around 12:45 to see if I wanted to go on a road trip to Lowville with her and Rich. I had an hour to get ready so I agreed to go. We ate at a great restaurant called Jeb's, which had chicken & biscuits as the Sunday special. It was delicious ! I brought home a slice of homemade apple pie and had that around 8 pm for dessert. It was very good ! They picked me up just after 2 and I was home just before 6. I had a fun time and I'm so glad they thought of me !


After my mishap in the office today my desire to "get things done" kind of went away. I sat on the couch for a bit and put an icepack on my fingers and my knee. I'm glad I bought that after breaking my hand, though I had to rifle through the freezer to find it ! It's a good thing I don't have a lot of "junk" in the house as right after my accident all I could think about was comfort food ! I had to settle for a Nutrisystem quesadilla and a couple pretzel sticks around 4 pm.


I guess it's a good thing I'm getting rid of a lot of junk and organized more, so there will be less obstacles in the house. Every time I fall I think about what I would do if I couldn't get up. That's the scary part of living alone and having no family close by. I still catch myself not turning lights on and then tripping. Like an idiot, I have a boot tray by the door to the back patio and I've stepped on it more than once because I don't always turn the light on or pay attention. Needless to say, my next task is going to be moving that and cleaning any other obstacles on the floor out there.


Yesterday brought warmer temps and no more snow, while today brought warmer temps and rain. Now we have yet another winter storm watch starting at 7 pm Wednesday and going through Friday. I think I'll be ok to go to bingo but I absolutely must go to the grocery store tomorrow to get what I need to bake cookies on Friday.

Below is what I achieved today. I am focusing on what I do each day, and not looking back to what I did or didn't do any other day. I hope that one day soon I won't need a checklist to ensure I do all of these everyday tasks !
